How To Clean White Grout In Shower

Thursday 31st December 2020

Often light-coloured and extremely porous, grout is prone to staining. The biggest culprits are mould and mildew, which can turn your grout an unpleasant grey colour, but a build-up of shampoo and shower gel can also turn your bathroom grout an unappealing shade of yellow or orange.

Thankfully, cleaning mouldy or discoloured grout is easier than you might think, and it's a quick way to transform your bathroom and breathe new life into it.  When it comes to cleaning shower grout and grout around your sink and bath, always start with the mildest method first, and work your way up to harsher cleaners if necessary . Whichever method or mixture you chose, it is important to clean the area thoroughly and get rid of any debris and residue before you target the grout.

Read on for tips on how to clean bathroom grout and how to keep it clean for longer.

  2. Spread the paste onto your grout using an old toothbrush to completely coat the area to be cleaned. Let it soak in for about 5 to 10 minutes.
  3. Like the previous method, use a brush with firm bristles to scrub the grout. Apply more of the mixture letting it set again, if  the grout is still dirty.
  4. Use a damp cloth or mop to wipe off the remaining paste. Finish the job by going over the entire tiled area with spray cleaner and wipe down with a clean cloth or mop.

Keeping grout clean

Cleaning grout in the bathroom is hard work. So  once you've got it all clean, it's worth taking a few precautionary steps to prevent a build-up of grime and mould in the future.

Dry the grout after every use

Drying tiles and grout after a shower or bath is  one of the easiest ways to keep grout looking brand new for longer. Use an old towel or a squeegee to wipe the shower walls or bath down after each use.

Seal grout lines

U sing grout sealer will create a protective surface to help prevent staining and help make the grout easier to clean in future. Tiles must be clean and completely dry  and the sealer needs to cure fully before you get the area wet again. It's important to follow the instructions carefully to ensure the sealer is effective.

Keep your bathroom well-ventilated

Keeping your bathroom as dry as possible will help prevent mould and mildew  from growing. Use your exhaust fan properly and open a window to ventilate the room after a steamy bath or shower.
